Music is worship.
When I first became a Christian, I thought Christian music was cheesy. I loved the big secular artists until the Holy Spirit convicted me about the music I listened to. When I decided to stop being lukewarm and go all in for Jesus, my desire to listen to secular music slowly started fading. Drake and Morgan Wallen (I know, what a combo) weren’t the same anymore. The only music I could stand was Christian.
Here is what I learned:
Hollywood has a god, and it’s not Jesus. Their music displays that god.
Music is worship (Psalm 100:2).
The lyrics you listen to shape your reality.
If I’m constantly listening to music about drinking, lust, etc., that is going to become my reality. Once I started listening to Christian music, my worldview got better, my mindset became healthier, and it usually put me in a better mood. The music made me focus on God, get my eyes off myself, and it became worship to the Lord. The music you listen to shapes your reality, whether you realize it or not.
Lord, fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Fill me with discernment in every area of my life, including music. Give me a desire for the things that You desire. Draw me closer to You and mold me into the person You created me to be. Remove anything in my life that does not honor You and replace it with God-honoring things. Thank You for showing me grace and for working through me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Psalm 100:2
“Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before Him, singing with joy.”
Proverbs 19:27
“Stop listening to instruction that causes you to stray.”
